Greetings, ZBimmers.
Covered Bridges is happening
on Saturday, May 2! John
and Bonnie Cox put together
a memorable day for your
driving pleasure in
Ashtabula County that
includes exploring the
wineries, visiting the
covered bridges and even
lunching in a 19th Century
Italianate mansion built by
a returning gold-rusher.
Covered Bridges begins at
9:00 AM from Mary’s Diner,
an old-fashioned diner
serving ‘comfort food’ amid
décor from the 1950’s.
Mary’s Diner is at 666 E.
Main in Geneva (2 lights
east of Rt. 20,
440.466.6393). They open at
6:00 AM, so there’s plenty
of time to enjoy breakfast
before hitting the road.
Here’s how Bonnie describes
the day:
After Mary’s Diner and
before lunch, we’ll start
the bridge tour with a few
wine stops.
Lunch will be from 2:00-3:30
PM (weather permitting on
the patio) at the Estate on
Coffee Creek, (coffeecreekestate,
1591 State Route 45,
Austinburg, 440.275.5022).
Built in the 1840’s, the
Estate has quite an eclectic
history including a stop on
the Underground Railroad and
the film site of ‘Dark
Events of Harvest Home”,
starring Bette Davis. The
dining area even has
Plexiglas flooring to view
the wine cellar in the
original stone basement of
the home.
Lunch is a fixed menu of
tomatoes with mozella,
chicken saute bucco (with
proscuitto, cheese,
mushrooms in wine sauce),
potato, vegetable and a
chocolate pot of crème with
raspberries for dessert.
The price is $25 per person,
plus tax, tip and wine.
There will be only one check
per table.
After lunch, we’ll
cruise through the little
'City of Geneva' with many
shops. Covered Bridges will
end at 4:00 PM at the Old
Firehouse Winery in Geneva (oldfirehousewinery,
5499 Lake Road E,
440.466.9300). Everyone
will be on their own to
enjoy Geneva.
Please RSVP to
Bonnie (BLCox@mac.com)
by Thursday, 4/30, with your
lunch reservations and any
special dietary
requirements.
The Covered Bridges drive
coincides with one date of
the Wine N Bloom self-guided
tour of 13 wineries in the
area. For more information
