26th Annual Vintage Grand Prix

Sunday, July 20

Pittsburgh, PA

Greetings, ZBimmers!

Sunday, July 20, will find the Z's at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh for the 26th Annual Vintage Grand Prix(Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association), the only vintage race in America that is held on city streets.  The race course is laid out on 2.33 miles of twisting roads around the Schenley Park Golf Course.  Once again, our good friend and event organizer, Rich Lipchik from Erie, has arranged for the ZBimmers to park in the BMW corral next to the best hairpin curve on the course!

This is how Rich describes the Vintage Grand Prix.  There are seven racing classes of vintage cars, car shows, vending booths, food vendors and much more.  The Auto Dealers cater lavish events all along the expanse of Schenley Park.  Then there are the endless variety of cars, new old, vintage, classic and exotic.  Many of the visitors could match that description also.  Wear comfortable walking shoes and have an umbrella close at hand (just in case the Weathermeister deserts us when we're out of state).

There is no admission charge for the Vintage Grand Prix.  However, there is a $25 registration fee for on-grounds parking, really a donation to the Autism Society of Pittsburgh, which also includes a dash plaque and program.  Go to this link before July 17 to pre-pay the registration fee with a credit card: Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix - Car Show Registration Page.  You can pay at the gate but you won't get the dash plaque or the program.

Ohio Z's, for the Run to Vintage Grand Prix, meet at the Cracker Barrel on SR 44 at I-76, exit 38 and prepare for an 8 AM departure.  (The address is 4367 SR 44, Rootstown and the phone is 330.325.9970.)  We'll travel east by freeway and turnpike to meet Rich north of Pittsburgh with his Erie contingent.  The rendezvous spot is the Perkins Restaurant on Rt 19 just south of the PA turnpike, exit 3.  (The address is 20013 Rt 19, Cranberry Township, PA and the phone is 724.772.3710.)

At 10 AM, it's off to Schenley Park and the Vintage Grand Prix!

After a full day of automotive and motorsport activity, Rich has planned an early group dinner, about 5 PM, at Carmodey’s, one of his favorite Pittsburgh eateries.  The atmosphere is casual but they have a reputation of being one of the best restaurants in the North Hills.  Carmodey’s is at 2620 Wexford Bayne Road, Sewickley, PA (I-79 and Rt. 910, just north of Pittsburgh) and their phone is 724-935-9852.

Here's the standard boilerplate for the Run to the Vintage Grand Prix.  Please join us for the entire trip or just the part that's convenient for you.  Bring along all the Z's that you can find.  Dress appropriately for the temperature because we drive regardless of weather.  Don't forget sunscreen and sun glasses if it's bright.  Have a full tank of gas to start the drive.  Bring your Talkabouts tuned to channel 7,5.  Be sure the camera has batteries or film.  Remember your tank of gas donation for Make A Wish.  Contributions now total $14,306!  Do visit zbimmers.org for information and the history of our adventures.

Looking forward to getting together for the Vintage Grand Prix!  See you on the 20th!
