Vintage Grand Prix
Sunday July 16th

Sunday,
July 16, will find the Zs at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh for the 24th
Annual Vintage Grand Prix. The
Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (www.pvgp.org)
is the only vintage race in American that is held on city streets.
The racecourse is laid out on 2.33 miles of twisting roads around
the Schenley Park Golf Course. Although
the Marque of the Year is Jaguar, our good friend and event organizer,
Rich Lipchik from Erie, has arranged for the ZBimmers to park in the BMW
corral next to the best hairpin curve of the course!
This
is how Rich describes the Vintage Grand Prix.
There are seven racing classes of vintage cars, car shows,
vending booths, food vendors and much more. The Auto Dealers cater
lavish events all along the expanse of Schenley Park.
Then there are the endless variety of cars, new old, vintage,
classic and exotic. Many of the visitors could match that
description also. There
is no charge for either admission or parking for the Vintage Grand Prix.
Rich does suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes and having an
umbrella close at hand (just in case the Weathermeister deserts us when
we're out of state). For
the Run to Vintage Grand Prix, meet at the Cracker Barrel on SR 44
at I-76, exit 38 and prepare for a 9 AM departure.
(The address is 4367 SR 44, Rootstown and the phone is
330.325.9970.) We'll travel
east by freeway and turnpike to meet Rich north of Pittsburgh with his
Erie contingent. Then it's
off to Schenley Park and the Vintage Grand Prix! After
a full day of automotive and motorsport activity, Rich has planned an
early group dinner, about 5 PM, at Carmodey’s, one of his favorite
Pittsburgh eateries. The
atmosphere is casual but they have a reputation of being one of the best
restaurants in the North Hills. Carmodey’s
is at 2620 Wexford Bayne Road, Sewickley, PA (I-79 and Rt 910, just
north of Pittsburgh) and their phone is 724-935-9852.
Here's the standard boilerplate for the Run to the Vintage Grand Prix. Please join us for the entire trip or just the part that's convenient for you. Bring along all the Zs that you can find. Dress appropriately for the temperature because we drive regardless of weather. Don't forget sunscreen and sun glasses if it's bright. Have a full tank of gas to start the drive. Bring your Talkabouts tuned to channel 7,5. Be sure the camera has batteries or film. Remember your tank of gas donation for Make A Wish. |
