Zee Zeptember 23 Z-drive… yah!”

Zeptember, 23

Amish Country and more.

Greetings, ZBimmers!

Homecoming 2006 is just a wonderful memory now.  I hope you're fully recovered because it's time to drive again!  Don Auble has organized the “Zee Zeptember 23 Z-drive… yah!” for your driving pleasure and we hope you can join us for some fun on Saturday, Sept 23.

This is Don's description of the day:

In addition to the usual “exercises” for our cars (suspension, drive train, tires, etc.), one of the goals of this drive is to build up your appetite for a traditional Amish hearty dinner.  We can't promise a “damn road,” but along the way you'll get to experience at least one dam road… and a horse-drawn wagon ride among animals and birds from around the world!

Gather about 10 AM at the McDonald’s on Rt. 83 on the north side of Wooster (3905 Burbank Road, Wooster, OH, 330.345.6216) and plan for a 10:30 AM departure.  We'll work our way through the “twisties” of the countryside down to Zanesville, with a rest stop at Mohawk Dam.  (<<< there's that word again.)  There will be a brief stop at a cheese house in the afternoon, as well as an ice cream stop on the way back north.  You may want to bring a cooler for any cheese purchases if it's a warm day and pack some snacks if you think you'll starve before dinner.

At 3 PM, the ZBimmers are scheduled for a horse-drawn wagon tour of the Rolling Ridge Ranch (www.visitrollingridge.com, 3961 County Road 168, Millersburg, OH, 330.893.3777) in Holmes County.  The Ranch features a 1.5-mile wagon-safari through 80 acres of woods and pasturelands to view 500 animals and birds from around the world.  Admission is $6.50 per person if we have 15 or more people in our group or $12.75 per person if we have less than 15.

The group dinner is planned for around 5 PM just down the road at The Amish Door Restaurant (1210 Winesburg St., Wilmot, OH, 330.359.5464).  The restaurant offers generous portions, fresh-baked bread and homemade pies!  Visit www.amishdoor.com/NEWEST%20MENU.htm to preview the menu.

FYI, there are 2 car shows of interest on Sunday, Sept 17.  The German Auto Show at the Donauschwaben German-American Center, 7370 Columbia Road, Olmsted Falls runs from 11 AM to 3 PM.  It's $20 to compete in either the Full Concours Class or the Clean Car Class but there is no admission charge to view the show.  The other show is the Glenmoor Gathering (www.glenmoorgathering.com) in Canton.  These cars compete by invitation only and there is a $20 charge to view the show but it's well worth the price of admission.

Here's the standard boilerplate for “Zee Zeptember 23 Z-drive… yah!”  Please join us for the entire trip or just the part that's convenient for you.  Bring along all the Zs that you can find.  Dress appropriately for the temperature because we drive regardless of weather.  Don't forget sunscreen and sun glasses if it's bright.  Have a full tank of gas to start the drive.  Bring your Talkabouts tuned to channel 7,5.  Be sure the camera has batteries or film.  Remember your tank of gas donation for Make A Wish.
