Z One Lap of American Drive

Sunday, May 1

OH & PA

The Zs are driving again on Sunday, May 1!  We’ll be taking the back roads to BeaveRun Motorsports Complex to watch the time trials of the One Lap of America enteries and then dine in a 16th century castle.  One Lap evolved from the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash where participants actually raced across the country!  Check out the history and other details at www.onelapofamerica.com.  The BeaveRun site is www.beaverun.com.

Several years ago, John Niemczura organized a Z drive with Summit Racing to meet the One Lap drivers as they stopped at Summit Racing for dinner.  They were on their way from Watkins Glen to run at Indianapolis the next day.  It was quite a display of driving machines!  Now, we have a chance to see the One Lap cars in action.

Z One Lap of American Drive will depart from the parking lot of Jasper’s Restaurant at 10 AM.  There will be nothing but track food until dinner, so you may want to start out with a full belly.  Jasper’s (566 White Pond Drive S, 330.864.4268) is located at the White Pond exit off I-77 in West Akron.

We’ll arrive at BeaveRun in the early afternoon to watch the One Lap of America time trials.  There is a $5 admission fee to the track.

The group dinner will be at 5:30 PM at Shakespeare’s Restaurant & Pub at the Olde Stonewall Golf Club in Ellwood City, PA.  The golf course has been rated by Golf Magazine as ‘one of the top ten public courses’ but we’ll just be sampling their food on this trip.  The castle is quite a sight with its moat and 12 foot high entry doors!  For a preview of the facility, go to www.shakespearesrestaurant.com.  The address is 1495 Mercer Road, Rt 65 and the phone is 724.752.4653.

Here's the standard boilerplate for Z One Lap of America Drive.  Please join us for the entire trip or just the part that's convenient for you.  Bring along all the Zs that you can find.  Dress appropriately for the temperature because we drive regardless of weather.  Don't forget sunscreen and sun glasses if it's bright.  Have a full tank of gas to start the drive.  Bring your Talk-about tuned to channel 7,5.  Be sure the camera has batteries or film.
